<Urza> my clocks says 6:50

<Silverbolt> good for you Tony

<Stackpole> Everyone has to have a hobby....

<ravskel> hehe

*** TheRiddler (TheRiddler@du464-pcap-nca01.wgn.net) has joined #MOSEISLEY

<Urza> OK

<ravskel> are we readdy?

<Urza> yeah

<Urza> So we'd like to welcome everyone to MosEisley.Com's chat with Michael Stackpole.

<Urza> We'd like to thank Mr. Stackpole for doing this.

<Stackpole> My pleasure

<Urza> Just want to remind everyone that we are not affiliated with Lucas Film, Del Rey, Bantam, or anything else that's with them. =)

<Urza> (Note saying we wouldn't mind.)

<ravskel> heh

<Urza> Like to take this opprotunity to give Mike a chance to give us a run down on his current projects and anything else he'd like to tell us about.

<Stackpole> Well, again, thanks for having me here.

<Urza> Your most welcome.

<Stackpole> Current projects: I have a short story coming out in an anthology based on the Deadlands Role Playing Game. That will be out in a week or so, at Gencon.

<Stackpole> I also did the introduction for the anthology.

<Stackpole> I've turned in two novels.

<Stackpole> The first is a Star Wars book, the second in the New Jedi Order series. Its title is ONSLAUGHT. It will be out in January from Del Rey.

<Stackpole> the second is THE DARK GLORY WAR, a fantasy, the first of four, which will come out in January from Bantam Books.

<Stackpole> Let's se, there are 23 of you here right now, so each of you should buy a thousand copies of that one.

<Stackpole> j/k

<Urza> ohh your going back to fantasy!! =) Loved "Once A Hero"

<ravskel> heh

<Stackpole> I'm also scripting the Dark Horse Comic series: Star Wars: Union. The subtitle is The Marriage of Luke Skywalker.

<Stackpole> that will run four issues, starting in November, to culminate on or about St. Valentine's day.

<Stackpole> I'm also writing my second Del Rey Sw novel: RUIN. Because of some changes in the story arc, this will be my final book right now.

<Stackpole> After I finish ruin, I'll write FORTRESS DRACONIS, which is the next book in the DragonCrown War fantasy series.

<Stackpole> and then, after THAT, I'll do another battleTech novel.

<Stackpole> I think tha bout covers it all.

<Urza> Sounds good. =)

<Stackpole> Beats working at Mickey D's

* Urza snickers

<Urza> Ok. Well we'll be take questions now.

<Urza> Please msg me or Rav so we can post them up.

<ravskel> Ok First quesiton is from Mik

<ravskel> he asked " I hear you're doing a trilogy for the upcoming New Jedi Order series. What can you tell us about it, and about the NJO in gneeral (that we haven't laredy heard, that is)?

<Stackpole> Actually, Lucasfilm prohibits me from commenting about ongoing work in any specifics.

<Stackpole> As I noted above, my trilogy has become a duology (with a draft choice to be named later...) because of changes we're making in the storyline, fine tuning it, etc.

<Urza> Here's a mailin... Aarin Ruddick - Michael A. Stackpole I would like to know how far you got with The Wedding Of Luke And Mara Comic for Dark Horse.

<Stackpole> But, it's a big epic and, given what I know about the writers involved and the plots unfolding, I think you'll find it it very exciting and fun.

<Stackpole> Aarin: I'm in themiddl eof scripting the series right now. I'm enjoying the work a lot and getting to play with a lot of old friends (characters) and coming up with great scenes for the artist to put together.

<Stackpole> The artist is Robert Teranishi, who did the Qui-Gon Jinn one shot from DH.

<Stackpole> next

<ravskel> chaos: wants to know "mr. stackpole- whats your opinion on major discrepinsies with statistics like the super star destroyer executors length (weg says its 8000 m, lucasarts says its 1200 m, and the length from the film model is about 1600m)

<ravskel> heh

<Stackpole> No opinion what so ever, Chaos. I try to work with the facts as presented in the books and where there is a discrepancy, I ask for a ruling, or figure out a way around it.

<Urza> Here's a mailin... Chris Morse - Are there any other Star Wars authors in particular that you work with and/or enjoy working with?

<Stackpole> for example, the Executor was said to be built in two different places .I decided that two SSDs were produced under that name, with one being the Lusankya. Creative fix for a minor error.

<Stackpole> Next

<Urza> Here's a mailin... Chris Morse - Are there any other Star Wars authors in particular that you work with and/or enjoy working with?

<Stackpole> Chris: I very much like working with Tim Zahn. He and I even vacationed together in Tasmania in June. I also know and like Aaron Allston a lot. We're old friends. The others I know and respect, and would work with them if the need came up.

<Stackpole> next

<Urza> Here's a mailin... Alvin Chin - Please explain the reason for x-wings being used on linnade 4, while snowspeeders were used on hoth.

<ravskel> mail in

<Urza> sue me =)

<Stackpole> Alvin: On Hoth the Rebels were on the gorund and couldn't make the X-wing work well under the cold conditions. Liinade 4 wasn't that cold, and theNR forces were invading.

<Stackpole> They used X-wings, which are more effective than snow speeders.

<Stackpole> next

<ravskel> Mik wants to know Mike my man, how did you come up with the title of I, jedi?

<Stackpole> I didn't come up with the title: Tom Dupree, my editor at Bantam did. I told him what I wanted to do for a book, he liked it, and came up with the title.

<Stackpole> next

<Urza> And the last mail in... Alvin Chin - Where did the name Lusankya come from? Does it have anything to do with the Lubyanka prison?

<Stackpole> Alvin: Yes, I wanted it to sound much like the inescapable prison in Moscow because I wanted the Lusankya to be inescapable.

<Stackpole> next

<ravskel> jaster asks: "First of all I would like to say i loved I, Jedi and the X-wing series and i wish to ask which did you enjoy better, the space battles in the xwing series or the lightsaber duels in I, Jedi?

<Stackpole> Ithink that's unescapable, actually.

<Stackpole> Apples and oranges, really: I liked both. I, JEDI is a more intimate book, since I was crawling around in Corran's skin, and it wrote itself faster, but the X-wing books were a pure joy.

<Stackpole> Allthe character play in them was a lot of fun. The combat sequences, too, were a challenge because I had to make each one different, which ain't easy. That extends through isard's Revenge, Of course, and into the NJO books I'm doing.

<Stackpole> But there is something very cool about lightsabers and TPM's fight was very inspiring for scenes in Onslaught.

<Stackpole> next

<Urza> <Opera_Ghost> I noticed by the titles of some of your books that you seem to have some knowledge of fencing.. Is this an accurate assumption. And if so, how long have you studied?

<Stackpole> I took fencing at summer camp for about a total of two weeks, then took a semester course in it in college. I also read lots about swordfighting for research, in faantasy novels and, oddly enough, the Jedi sequences I've written. So, I don't have that much experience, but I make up for it in book learning...

<Stackpole> Actually, I'm more confident of my ability to fight with a sword than I am, say, to fly a jet... *g*

<Stackpole> next

<ravskel> Draco asks " I have a question: Do you have any ideas for a X-wing T.V. Series, and if so what would you base it on, the comics or the novels " Hmm Star wars tv series... yummmyyyyyyy

<Stackpole> Draco, that would be up to LFL, and I don't htink they'll even consider that until after the movies are done. At that point if they wanted to do something and wanted me to participate, i would. I think either the novels or comics would work well, with the comics being easier to adapt to one hour episodic Tv.

<Stackpole> next

<ravskel> Vykk asks: " Id Like to ask Mr. Stackpole if he has any tips for authors who would like to write a novel about SW"

<Stackpole> The easiest advice is to write novels in your own universe first. No author inthe line is going to get into the line without any books already published.

<Stackpole> Also, writing in someone else's universe can lead you to get sloppy since a lotof the ard work is done already.

<Stackpole> It's like learning to play basket ball on an 8 foot rim. You'll learn, butyou won't get into the NBA that wway.

<Stackpole> Learn to write first, then learn to be a SW writer.

<Stackpole> next

<Urza> <KarrdeKNR> Can you ask him this: What kind of liscense do you have for changing the SW universe?

<Stackpole> All changes are approved by Lucasfilm, so I have no free hand or anything even close.

<Stackpole> That said, I've been invited in to write stories there and as long as LFL likes them and approves whatever changes they make to the universe, well, the changes are made.

<Stackpole> If LFL doesn't like them, it's back to the drawing board, and that does happen from time to time. I've had two comic projects killed, and I know of two novels that have been killed inthe Bantam line.

<Stackpole> next

<ravskel> TheRiddler asks: Are you being considered for any more NJO novels (did we answer this already?)

<Urza> <PB> The second DH handbook came out a few weeks ago. Are there plans to do another handbook based on the Rogues?

<Urza> oops

<Stackpole> Riddler: I'm doing two NJO books now and I've talked with Del Rey editors about others in the future of the line, but nothing is solid at this point.

<Stackpole> PB: I don't know of any plans for another Rogue Squadron Handbook, no. Most everyhing was covered from the comics in the first one.

<Stackpole> next

<ravskel> Riddler says Thankx

<ravskel> mr stackpole- some authors like timothy

<ravskel> zahn(talon kardde) like to place a character in their work to represent

<ravskel> Thats from Chaos

<ravskel> ummm

<ravskel> opps

<ravskel> let me repaste that

<Stackpole> to represent themselves?

<ravskel> yea

<Stackpole> And do I do that?

<ravskel> whos your character if any?

<ravskel> was the question

<Stackpole> Idon't do that, save in a couple of novels where I've inserted myself in a cameo. In BattleTech and the Fiddleback Trilogy.

<Stackpole> I'm not Corran, I'm not any of my characters. It IS true that I do have a lot of characters with green eyes, which some folks see as rare, but Idon't since I look at them in the mirror every day.

<Stackpole> i don't base characters on friends or historical figures, either. I like my characters newly minted, so I can break them if I need to.

<Stackpole> The idea that authors put themselves into charcters is a myth fostered by literary critics and creativer writing instructors who are so creatively bankrupt that's the only way they can produce a character.

<Stackpole> next

<Urza> <mrpoop> Were you planning to bring Ysanne Isard back the entire time, or was this decided later?

<Stackpole> I knew i was bringing her back before The Bacta War was written, yes. The way the end of that book was written, she could be dead if there were no more use for her, or alive if there was.

<Stackpole> There was, so she came back. As for her possible survival after IR, well, I think she's dead, but one never knows. That bacta is pretty slick stuff.

<Stackpole> next

<ravskel> Mik wants to know: will your NJO books be "mainstream" novels or similar to the X-wing Series

<ravskel> no clue what he means by mainstream....

<Stackpole> The NJO order books will be mainstream, since we have no sidelines going on with Del Rey. That being said, though, you'll see plenty of the characters that I've used from the past showing up.

<Stackpole> By mainstream he means a focus onthe main movie characters, as opposed to secondary characters int he X-wing books.

<Stackpole> next.

<Urza> <mrpoop> Were you planning to bring Ysanne Isard back the entire time, or was this decided later?

<Urza> oops

<Urza> nm that

<Urza> <SD_SE_SKYKILLER> who had the idea for darth maul to be a copy

<ravskel> He is a copy?

<Urza> i think he's asking about the double saber..

<Urza> not sure..

<Stackpole> I have no clue. All I know about TPM is what I've seen on the screen and read in the books.

<ravskel> Victore wants to know If you coulde be one star wars character who would you be...

<Stackpole> Ouch, tough character. At this point, probably Corran, only because I know him better than any other. As for being someone from the films, hmmmm, I don't know that I'd like to be any of them, but I'd love to be someone who got to hang with them. Make sense?

<Stackpole> next

<Urza> <KarrdeKNR> could you Ask him how many books he had to write before he was first published

<Stackpole> Well, my first published piece was a game, and that was before I wrote any novels. I wrote one novel, a fantasy, Talion: Revenant (Bantam, 1997., buy it now)....

<Stackpole> before I got a BattleTech contract. My first published novel was Warrior: En Garde, which was my second completed novel.

<Stackpole> next

<ravskel> chaos wants to know who is the most interesting sw character youve had the chance to read about

<Stackpole> Hmmm, good question. Darth Vader, perhaps. The twists and turns he had to go through makes him fascinating. I can't wait for the next new movies to find out how his story concludes.

<Stackpole> Well, we know how it ends, of course, but how it progresses. *g*

<Stackpole> next

<Urza> <Xandor> ask: if they were going to make movie's from some of the starwars books, which ones would you recomend they use?

<Stackpole> I'm not sure the novels would do well as movies. TV miniseries, with a dozen hours or so, that would be cool. I'd go for the Zahn books first or, oddly enough, I, JEDI, since the story there is self-contained. The x-wing books would function as a series, though TV would butcher it eventually.

<Stackpole> next

<ravskel> chaos wants to know : mr stackpole did you have to read most of the other written novels to keep in touch with oyur own works or did you recieve summaries from bantam and lucasfilem of hte current events.

<Stackpole> Chaos: I was trained as a historian, so I took it upon myself to read everything, prepare my own summaries and really dive straight into the universe. I used everyting I was sent, from novels and short stories, to comics, game books and sourcebooks and, of course, the films.

<Stackpole> next

<Urza> <Xandor> how did you come up with Booster?

<Stackpole> Booster just kind of evolved. He was an unseen boogey man in the first 3 books. When I brought him into The Bacta War I wanted him to be larger than life, but not at all like Han or Talon Karrde, the folks he'd be most compared to.

<Stackpole> I also neededhim t be physically big since Corran is not.

<Stackpole> Somehow he just came out the way he did, and I'm glad of it. He's a lot of fun to write, and his scene with Borsk Fey'lya in IR was one of the most pleasing for me personally.

<Stackpole> next

<ravskel> TheRiddler asks: Will NJO Duology still keep the dark tide series title?

<Stackpole> according to the cover sample I have, yes, but that's mutable right up to the last moment.

<Stackpole> next

<Urza> <Xandor> how did you come up with Corran?

<Stackpole> With Corran I wanted a pilot from Corellia who wasn't a smuggler, so making him a cop seemed a natural. Pilots are small, tend to be light-colored in the eyes, so I did that for him.

<Stackpole> I knew I wanted him to be a Jedi eventually because, face it, it's not Star Wars without the Force and all, so that was thrown in. then he evolved in his interactions with the other characters.

<Stackpole> A lot of character work become an evolution. You learn about characters through writing.

<Stackpole> next, brb, need to let the dogs out.

<Stackpole> back

<Urza> wb =)

<Urza> From FireSky. "Do you enjoy writing your own characters MORE than the fabled "big eight", and if so, do you think that it is more fun just reading about characters other than "The Big Eight"?"

<Stackpole> When a dog comes into my ofice, looks at me, it means they want out, and there ain't no waiting around for it.

<ravskel> Jaster asks: Mr. Stackpole, what struck you to put Wedge int he X-Wing books, personally i am a big wedge fan

<Stackpole> I enjoy the challenge of getting the Big 8 or Magnificent 7 right. My own characters allow me latitude because they are not so tightly defined. I like doing both, really, I guess, or I'd not be doing either. *g*

<Stackpole> As for using Wedge, that was a suggestion made by LFL. When I started doing the research, I knew Wedge was just the sort of character I'd have picked anyway.

<Stackpole> Using him made writing the books very easy. He was a fun character to build up and develop.

<Stackpole> next

<ravskel> Lord Dave Maul asks: hey don't know if it's been brought up (i just go here) but ask Mike what we are to expect with his marriage of Luke Skywalker comic series this fall

<Urza> <Mik> I just (literally) finished Battleground: Tatooine; my first taste of the Rogue Squadron comics. do you know how muhc longer the series will be running?

<Urza> ack =)

<Stackpole> Maul: Lucasfilm prohibits me from commenting about ongoing work in any specifics. Suffice it to say, it will be a fun story that shows off the skills and heroics of all the characters we've come to know and love.

<Stackpole> Mik: The series was canceled after 35 issues, but all of them are coming out in trade paperback, save the first four, so you've got a lot of reading you'll be able to catch up on.

<Stackpole> next

<Urza> (i'm running out of questions... if you have any send them here)

<ravskel> Mik: what was your least favorite part of TPM or in other words what part wouldyou want to see changed (off topic but hey )

<Stackpole> About the only thing I would have done differently in TPM would be to have had Darth Maul taunting Obi-wan while the padawan was hanging there inthe tunnel.

<ravskel> Chaos Askss: did you incoporate some of hte stories that happened in your life into some of your works or do you like to keep your self fresh with the ideas too?

<Stackpole> I would have had him say that were OBK a full Jedi, Maul would kill him. Since he wasn't, he didn't. I'd have Maul give him a message about doom for the Jedi, etc., and prompt OBK to act as he did.

<Stackpole> Minor change, otherwise I liked the film fine.

<Stackpole> Well, Chaos, I, Jedi is based entirely on my training as a Jedi knight. It's labeled as fiction, but it's really fact.

<Stackpole> Of course, real life experiences do invade fiction. In I, Jedi, for example, there is a scene on a shuttle with some hapless boob shoving too much stuff into overhead bin space....

<Stackpole> I see that all the time on planes. And the stuff about haute cuisine, that's based on eating at a few fancy restaurants and watching lots of cooking shows on TV.

<Stackpole> But I generally like to keep the mundane out of SF/Fantasy since they are supposed to be out of the ordinary.

<Stackpole> next

<ravskel> Xandor asks: if they were going to make a movie's from some of the starwars books, which ones would you recommend they do..

<Urza> already asked that...

<Stackpole> As I said before, the Zahn books would be my first choice.

<ravskel> oppsss

<ravskel> sorry

<Urza> guys don't repeart questions to me and rav =)

<Urza> repeat

<Urza> only send it to 1 person

<Urza> <Mik> why aren't the first four RS comics coming to TPB?

<Stackpole> The first four comics in the X-wing line were, for a variety of reasons, not up to par with the rest of the series. You can find them in the secondary market if you want to see them, but DHC decided not to publish a compilation of them.

<Stackpole> next

<ravskel> mrpoop asks: "Which A-wing was tycho in during the battle of Endor"

<Stackpole> Tycho was in the second A-wing that veered off in the Death Star. He was not pictured in the original film or the SE, whch is why I pick THAT A-wing for him.

<Stackpole> next

<Urza> <Slayer> What was your inspiration for writing I,Jedi?

<Stackpole> I felt ther needed to be a story of a Jedi's fall and redemption/development that we'd not seen inthe films or the novels. Since Dark Empire did that for Luke....

<Stackpole> Corran became a viable candidate. From there I wanted to show both of his sides andtheir integration. I also wanted to show why the Jedi had been the guardians of the galaxy and how they could strike fear into the hearts of evil-doers.

<Stackpole> Roll all those things together and I, Jedi popped out. I decided to go first person so all the readers could be inside Corran's skin as he felt the Force and worked with it.

<Stackpole> next

<ravskel> Terminato's Friend wants to know if you know what order all the books go in.. Chronologically wise

<Stackpole> yes I do, and there are countless chronologies out there on the net that can be downloaded, printed out and serve as a guide to buying the books at a store. *g*

<Stackpole> next

<ravskel> ummm

<Stackpole> wb, urza

<ravskel> Randy Wnats to know: Do you submit novel ideas or does LFL give you suggestions

<Urza> blah mirc crash

<Urza> thanks mike

<Stackpole> The authors submit their ideas, but we do take input from LFL. LFL, for example, suggested I use Wedge. I took that suggestion. I, JEDI, on the other hand, was completely at my instigation.

<Stackpole> next

<Urza> <Slayer> out of all the rogue squadron members, who is his favorite?

<Stackpole> Not a fair question, since I put a lot into a bunch of them. My favorites, though, include Wedge, Tycho, Ooryl, Gavin and Corran.

<Stackpole> next

<ravskel> Xandor asks: " Why did you have corran marry Mirax?"

<Stackpole> Seemed the right thing for those characters to do.

<Stackpole> next

<Urza> <mrpoop> How did you come up with the idea for the Halcyon Jedi's poor telekinesis skills?

<Stackpole> in looking at the contrast between Luke and Corran, and how they would be compared, I knew I could never have a Jedi that would out-power Luke. KJA had done that with Kyp, so the act was old.

<Stackpole> Another writer and I were discussing my characters in general and he told me that I tended to have characters who were more 'clever' than they were 'powerful.'

<Stackpole> With that in mind I looked at what short of things Corran could use that would be clever. Since TK was powerful and a bit overdone, I ditched it and went for more subtle powers.

<Stackpole> Corran had already used Alter Mind, so that was in the mix, no prob. The energy absorption proved to be a fun one to use, too, very subtle yet powerful in its own way.

<Stackpole> That's how I came up with that mix, though.

<Stackpole> next

<ravskel> chaos asks: Do you think that dark empire was a turning point for the "after trilogy" stories (even though the zahn trilogy was important too and some people are relucatant to excep the comics and not counting what may happen in the NJO)

<Stackpole> Clearly DE had a profound effect on Luke. Tim and I addressed that in I, JEDI and the Hand of Thrawn books. Those three novels encapsulate the post-DE era and really bring Luke around in his development, focusinghim on what Yoda taught him again.

<Stackpole> The comics obviously are part of the unvierse, as will be the NJO books.

<Stackpole> next

<ravskel> oBwAn asks: why didn' you mention anything about Mara Jade in the Rogue Squadron Series?

<Stackpole> The X-wing books took place before the Zahn tril, which is when Mara became a public figure. That's the same reason there are no Noghri in the Xwing novels, save IR.

<Stackpole> next

<Urza> <Unicorn> My mom and I got really confused about Rhysati Ynr, but that might be because we misread something... what exactly happened to her?

<Stackpole> Rhysati and Nawara married just prior to the Thrawn trilogy and she resigned from the squadron to raise a family.

<Stackpole> next

<Urza> <Slayer> corran wants to know : is there going to be more of corran horn!?

<Stackpole> From the back cover copy of Onslaught I quote, "...and Jedi Knight Corran Horn...". I'd say that's a yes.

<Stackpole> next

<Urza> hehe

<ravskel> WEll..... I wasn't gonna ask this but Multiple pople have inquired as to wether or not you like jar - jar

* Urza does a drum roll

<Stackpole> I've seen TPM 4 times. I didn't have trouble understanding what he was saying...

<Stackpole> I thought he was fine as comic relief.

<Stackpole> He did what he was meant to do inthe film, and that's fine by me.

<ravskel> Randy- wants to know Are there any more X-wing books planned, or are you and Mr. Allston done with the series.

<Stackpole> Not really a case of like or dislike -- it was a part with a specific purpose, and it filfilled it.

<Stackpole> Now I'm not out stockpiling Jar-Jar figures, but I'd not throw them away if I got htem.

<Stackpole> to my knowledge there wil be no X-wing novels in the Del Rey line per se.

<Stackpole> next

<Urza> <Randy-> Speaking of the Halcyons' Jedi skills, where did you come up with the "affect the mind" thing?

<Stackpole> Randy: Um, A New Hope, Old Ben, the stormtroopers, "These are not the droids you're looking for..." I just added multimedia when Corran has absorbed a lot of energy.

<Stackpole> next

<ravskel> chaos asks" Since luke is the son of vader who was " the prophetted one" with his midichlorians and all dont you think kja made a mistake in making kyp "the most powerful force user to ever breath the oxygen of hte universe?"

<Stackpole> KJA didn't make a mistake since the position of Anakin Skywalker and the nature of his power was not known at the time the JA3 books were written.

<Stackpole> I don't think I'd have used that phrase to describe Kyp, but that's a difference that you find among authors.

<Stackpole> next

<Urza> <Slayer> ask him is he going to proceed on with more books like I,jedi where they feature a jedi in training and development

<Stackpole> There are no plans, to my knowledge, for that sort of book per se in the NJO line. That said, though, lots of Jedi get training and insidght in the course ofthe saga.

<Stackpole> next

<Urza> <Shadow> Did you have any emotional conflict with killing off squadron members in your first round of Rogue novels? Personally, I got so wrapped up in them, each death hit me hard...which is just how involved I want to be in a book!

<Stackpole> Actually, I planned on deaths hitting folks hard. If they don't, I've failed to convey the horror of war and the nature of the experience of squadron members.

<Stackpole> I deliberately had the first squadron member die in bed so readers would think the death was unfair.

<Stackpole> without the deaths having impact, there is no real suspense, and you have to have suspense in action novels like that.

<Stackpole> next.

<ravskel> chaos asks: do you think that maybe the reason obiwan sacraficed himself in anh is that he knew the only one who could defeatvader was the son of hte "propheted one", the oen who would have inherited the grand amount of midicholorians anakinhad

<Stackpole> Um, that question argues from facts not in evidence, so I'll decline to answer.

<Stackpole> next

<Urza> Ok. We're going to an open forum now and will moderate the channel in bursts if it gets really wild.

<Urza> So get those fingers ready. =)

*** Urza sets mode: -m

<Tony> What does the middle inital A, in your name stand for?

<Slayer> stackpole

<Chrisfan> can i talk yet?

<Chrisfan> oh yes

<Stackpole> The A stands for my middle name.

<FireSky> lol

<Slayer> do you read any of zahns work like the thrawn trilogy? and what did you think of it

<Mik> I just wanna say that I think I, Jedi had the single funniest line evr in SW-related media:

<Mik> "Where is the rest of your speeder bike?!"

<Stackpole> I've read all Tim's Sw novels and I loved them.

* Slayer smile

<Stackpole> Mik: i liked that one, too.

<Mik> face it guys, he ain't telling us his middle name

<Opera_Ghost> Okay I must say it one more time.....

<Chrisfan> have you read every star wars novel ?

<Slayer> i read all of your books, they were great, but zahn is another one of my favorite writers

* Opera_Ghost 'We're not Worthy'

<Stackpole> hey, you want to know my middle name, hit the web. That info is out there.

<jenn> is aellyn jandi dead, and if not will she be showing up?

<Mik> Mike: i was laughing my ass off in the middle of study hall =)

<FireSky> Ghost, you suckup

<LordDaveMaul> Mike, have you read a draft of Vector Prime yet?

<Silverbolt> Ok, since Urza wouldn't ask my question 30 minutes ago when it was relevant and I have to go soon, which character were you in BT?

<Stackpole> Chris: real close. read or skimmed all the adult ones.

<chaos> why do all sci fi authors have beards????

<Stackpole> Hi, Robin.

<Tony> arrggg, Work, It'll be the death of me

<Mik> lol

<chaos> do they want to hide something?????

<Opera_Ghost> Urza I got your Q&A log for you.

<Stackpole> Jenn: Who?

<dreddnott> Sci Fi authors have no chins.

<Stackpole> Silver: Gus Michaels.

<jenn> from the bacta war

<chaos> oh

<dreddnott> that's what they're hiding

<Unicorn> lol

<Stackpole> chaos: most of the female ones don't.

<Unicorn> Aellyn Jandi. Sair Yonka's mistress.

<Xandor> Carm Down Everyone! he's just an Author! Give Him Breathing Room!!!!!!

<chaos> oh really!

<Stackpole> The men do because we don't paid enough to afford razors.

<LordDaveMaul> HAHA

<chaos> lol

<Terminato> lol

<ravskel> Xandor: he gets to make up star wars and have it be official.. Thats more than an author

<Silverbolt> Gus Michaels...don't remember him, what book was he in?

<Stackpole> Jenn, I had a character by that name in The Bacta WAr? Who was she?

<Slayer> stackpole, i just want to say, on behalf of all the true fans out here, that you are a really great author and i hope to see more of your books out in the stores

<Stackpole> Silver, he was in the Kerensky books, the lastter to.

<Stackpole> thanks, Slayer.

* Slayer nods

<Silverbolt> ok,t hanx :)

<Sig9> Mike: how big of a check would i have to write to get another talion book? ;)

<jenn> she was married to a moff, but was having an affair with captain sair yonka

<chaos> do you have your own "author's chair" and if so is it indented?

* Silverbolt now gets to read BoK for the 5th time to look for this guy

<Silverbolt> oh well, was gonna do it again anyway :P

<Stackpole> Robin: Oh, I don't know, I think $25K is my going rate right now. *g*

<Mik> I just wanna say that i was pissed when i shelled out almost 20 bucks for I, jedi, then saw it a month later on paperback

<dreddnott> Hey Mr. Stackpole! Saxman says you suck! I don't! You rule!

<Stackpole> Jenn, Okay. She's alive, but, nope I've not used her again.

<Sig9> Mike: I'll talk to my account...is it ok if the check is date year 3000? ;)

<ravskel> hehe

<Stackpole> Chaos: Author chair?

<Slayer> lol

<ravskel> Sig=)

<Stackpole> Mik: the HB will last.

<chaos> hehe

<Sig9> accountant and dated...stupid typos

<jenn> thanks, it was bothering me!

<Opera_Ghost> Hehe, I will definitely admit that Stackpole is one of my top 4 Favorite writers of Star Wars books.

<Stackpole> Robin: only if you can guarantee I'll be around to cash it then.

<Xandor> only top 4?

<ravskel> Opera_Ghost: there are more than 4?

<Stackpole> NP, Jenn

<FireSky> Ghost is a well rounded guy, :-)

<LordDaveMaul> Mike, have you read either a draft or any of the excerpts from Vector Prime yet?

<ravskel> snicker =)

<Stackpole> Thanks, Ghost.

<Opera_Ghost> Hey,

<Opera_Ghost> you're in great company.

<chaos> i think mr stackpole is really a shaven wookie in disguise!

<Stackpole> Lord Dave: I've read a draft. It's a solid book.

<Mik> Mike, how much do I have to pay to get you to tell us who dies in vector prime? (or do you even know?)

<ravskel> Zahn Stackpole the anderson

<Stackpole> I think you'll enjoy it.

<Opera_Ghost> Lucas, Zahn, and Stackpole are the other 3.

<ravskel> for me

<Slayer> stackpole, what do you think of events like this where you get to hear questions from people that have read your books? do they entertain you to hear how we feel?

<Stackpole> Mik: if I told, I would be fired. You want that?

<Opera_Ghost> I mean, Brooks

*** Urza sets mode: +m

<Urza> i'll let mike catch up =)

<ravskel> we will unmoderate in a few seconds

<ravskel> need air

<Stackpole> slayer, I love the feedback. Helps me know if Im doing the job right. And these events are fun.

<ravskel> Stackpole: are they fun cause they are or does that "drink" you got before the event help?

<Stackpole> go ahead with unmoderating....

*** Urza sets mode: -m

<Stackpole> Ah, the drink was just water.

<ravskel> Stackpole: Ahhh =)

<dreddnott> I'm sorry Saxman hates you but he despises your methods.

<lordkyuss> Stackpole:which macintosh do you own?

<chaos> how many hours a day do you work?

<Xandor> r u really as ugly as a "shaven wookie in disguise"?

<Stackpole> Dredd: who, what?

<Stackpole> Lord, I have a powermac 6500.

<Tony> lol

<Randy-> Mr. Stackpole, will both you and Mr. Allston be writing future X-wing books, or just you, or just him...?

<Terminato> Ow. Enough with the colors already, guys.

<FireSky> anything but a mac!!! hehe

<Stackpole> Xandor, you slander wookie with that question.

<Urza> mike... one question why mac?

<LordDaveMaul> Mike, now that you've read Vector Prime, do we learn what Mara's disease is?

<Stackpole> Prophet, I dunno.

<Falcor17> I saw Natalie Portman

<dreddnott> Saxman one of my "friends"

<Randy-> ::dunno why he asked 'just him'::

<Stackpole> Randy: the 9th will be the last.

<Mik> 9 books sure is an odd number to close with

<Falcor17> in her car getting out near a blockbuster on mainstrreet

<Stackpole> Lord daveActually, Lucasfilm prohibits me from commenting about ongoing work in any specifics.

* Unicorn feels sorry for Mike

<ravskel> Mik: and 6 movies isnt?

<Randy-> Darn. Ah well...it's a great series, good job

<Falcor17> she was sort of PMSed at something

<LordDaveMaul> Doh!

<Unicorn> If people fired questions at me that fast I'd go nuts.

<Falcor17> she looks alot older

<Falcor17> no joke everyone

<Stackpole> dredd: you need new friends. What "methods" does he despise?

<Urza> i've seen him do this with a heck of a lot more people Uni =)

<Falcor17> I saw her

<Xandor> GIVE HIM SOME AIR!!!!!

<Mik> why ddo i get teh feeling he's got that phrase burned into his brain?

<Falcor17> she was driving a

<Mik> " Lucasfilm prohibits me from commenting about ongoing work in any specifics, Lucasfilm prohibits me from commenting about ongoing work in any specifics..."

<Stackpole> I've got the phrase on a macro

<chaos> i wish i got paid as much as mike than id buy my own darth maul figure!

<FireSky> haha

<mrpoop> falcor - so did i

<Mik> lol

<Mik> knew it

<Slayer> stackpole, one more question before i leave, i was just wondering what kinds of books we readers should expect to see form you in the future?

<Falcor17> drivving a mitsubishi thing

<Stackpole> Chaos: you think I can afford Maul figures? Ha!

<dreddnott> well Sir he's not here now -- I'm not sure what he dislikes in general sorry

<Falcor17> the fast one

<Falcor17> I swear I saw her

<chaos> lol

<Stackpole> dredd: okay, no sweat.

<Opera_Ghost_is_AFK> Well, I can tell you're a fan of the Xwing Games series.....

<dreddnott> cool.

<Falcor17> Im not playin around

<Opera_Ghost_is_AFK> Which games do you play the most when you have time?

* chaos gets a little too excited about The Phantom Menace and passes out

<Stackpole> slayer: fun books. Fantasy and SW and Btech.

<Randy-> Here's a different question for ya Mike: How many BattleTech novels have you written? I just bought "Blood of Kerensky Trilogy Volume 1" which was penned by you...

<Falcor17> I swear I saw her

<mrpoop> I've got 2 12" Mauls

<Stackpole> Ghost: I play very few games, since my Mac is a work tool.

<dreddnott> I'll bet you do, mrpoop!

<Falcor17> no one even approached her but she was like PO'ed at something when she got out

<LordDaveMaul> Falcor, in case you didn't notice, we don't care. Take it to #natalieportman

<Stackpole> Randy: I have written 12, I think.

<Xandor> i want to read the Mech books

<Slayer> whoa.. btech? hehe i never knew you wrote about battletech.. whats some past titles that you have written about battletech?

<Falcor17> I guess she figured Chinese drivers are different in Queens than in Long Island

<Sig9> gotta run, night all

<Stackpole> Slayer: Hit Amazon and they'll give you the full list.

<LordDaveMaul> doh, Rob?!? Sonofa

<Falcor17> heelllo?

<Slayer> ok :)

<chaos> mr stackpole would you consider writing a novel about my life?????

<Mik> lolol

<Opera_Ghost_is_AFK> same here... Have Fun all. (I SO wish I could stay longer.)

<Slayer> chaos you nutz ;)

<Stackpole> chaos: I'll pass.

<Silverbolt> Slay: Warrior Trilogy, Blood of Kerensky, Natural Selection, Assumption of Risk, Malicious Intent, Grave Covenant, and Prince of Havoc

<Mik> yeah, me too

<Silverbolt> and amazingly i think thst in chronological order <g>

<chaos> thats too bad

<Stackpole> Silver: you left out Bred for War.

<Falcor17> Mik : where?

<Xandor> mike, what is the internet address where we can find you starwars books, so i can c whats coming and when?

<Stackpole> BFW goes between Risk and Intent.

<Silverbolt> oh, forgot Bred for War

<chaos> you wouldnt fall asleep too often

<Stackpole> my new website is www.stormwolf.com

<Silverbolt> sorry, the one havn't read :)

<Xandor> thanks

<Silverbolt> I need to order it from Fasa

* LordDaveMaul bookmarks it

<Mik> Mike, is it too much to ask to stick a character named Mik Coopra into Ruin? Just like some technician or something...

<Randy-> Have you written any other books besides the X-wing books, "I, Jedi", your upcoming NJO book(s), and your BattleTech books?

<lordkyuss> thanks ravskel

<lordkyuss> thanks urza

<Stackpole> Mik: can't do it because of my contracts.

<ravskel> your welcome lord kyuss

<lordkyuss> thaks stackpole

<Mik> heh

<lordkyuss> er thanks

<Mik> dang

<Urza> np lord kyuss

* LordDaveMaul remembers Ann Crispin sneaking Pablo Hidalgo into Rebel Dawn

<Stackpole> Randy: yep, 5 fantasy novels and three dark fantasy novels. Amazonhas the list, or my web page does.

<Silverbolt> Mike, don't you auction off characters in your books for charity

<Silverbolt> I heard that somewhere

<LordDaveMaul> er, which book was that? Hmmm, forget

<FireSky> anybody who wants a character in a book should go and write their own! hehe

<Stackpole> Lord DAve: Anne works under different rules than I do.

<Xandor> mike, what do u think of the name Anwar Mana'bir as a name of a bothan?

<LordDaveMaul> Ah, hehe

* Silverbolt thinks it was on anime archive in#battleforce about a year ago

<Stackpole> Silver: thats in Btech, yes.

<Silverbolt> yah :P

<LordDaveMaul> Ok, here's a big question. What did you think of Ep.1?

<Stackpole> Xandor: lacks the hard K or T sound you find often intheir names.

<Randy-> Great, thanks Mr. Stackpole, I'll check 'em out :-D By the way, about my "affect the mind" question earlier, I meant where Corran makes it look like something different happened instead of what the people saw...what's that called? Alter Mind? Sorry...

<Stackpole> Iloved Ep. One. I saw it four times in the first week (including a press screening). I'm ready to go back.

<Unicorn> (so does Asyr Sei'lar)

<dreddnott> Hey Stackpole: have you ever stayed to the end of the credits in EP 1?

<FireSky> ooo, someone's being nitpicky

<LordDaveMaul> I saw it 4 times, but now it's gone. I DO have a bootleg, so I'm all set. =-)

<Stackpole> Randy: right, Alter Mind. It's the same as old ben did in the death star with the projected sound.

<chaos> i fell asleep 4 times during i jedi

<Silverbolt> comeone call the vcops

<Stackpole> Good point, Unicorn, but she's an unusual Bothan.

<chaos> just kidding!

<Mik> Mike, what was the last movie you saw?

<Unicorn> Unusually cool. :)

<Stackpole> Mik: Wild Wild West, I think.

* Mik shudders

<TheRiddler> same here

<Fixer> UCK

<FireSky> that was very well written... a great transition from the old series

<chaos> i had to run to the bathroom more than 4 times though

<Stackpole> I'm waiting for Mystery Men.

<chaos> i think

<LordDaveMaul> Ok, I don't know if you've looked at some of the speculation, but here's a rumor. Do you think Sidious and Palpatine are the same person?

<Mik> hell yeah, me too

<Randy-> Oh right, now I remember. OK, nevermind 'bout that <g> Did you ever see The Matrix?

<Xandor> what is your FAVORATE book?

<TheRiddler> MYSTERY MEN was godd, saw it!

<Mik> how, riddler?

<FireSky> LDM, how bout this? there was no Sidious in the credits, only Palpatine, :-)

<Stackpole> Lord: I would feel comfortable with that speculation, but that's based on what I've seen of the film. I have no inside information.

<chaos> i try not to pee to often during your novels it takes the excitement away

<TheRiddler> advance screenings.....

<Mik> ( i'm listening to that smash mouth song right now)

<Stackpole> I saw Matrix twice. I liked it.

<Silverbolt> Mike, who would you have to say is your fav BT character?

<Stackpole> Chaos, take the book withyou.

<Stackpole> Silver: probably Kai

<dreddnott> LOL

<Silverbolt> cool

<LordDaveMaul> Yeah, that's what I thought. I think in the screenplay, Ian is listed as Sidious.

<chaos> good idea

<dreddnott> actually that's a good idea

<Stackpole> I've not seen the screen play, so I don't know.

<Randy-> Mike, who would you have to say is your fav SW character of all time? Just one, now. <g>

<LordDaveMaul> Heh, they're TOO much alike to be different people.

<Mik> it's no secret that Ian played sidious, they just won't say if they're the same person

<TheRiddler> the Inisder's Guide to TPM flat-out says that McDiarmid plays Sidious

<Stackpole> urza, Ican go to the top of the hour anyway.

<Silverbolt> yes, i do realize I am to into battletech since it's the only novel series i try to keep in good shape...

<Terminato> there's no way Sideous and Palpatine aren't the same guy

<Terminato> ;]

<LordDaveMaul> Cool, Riddler

<Urza> ok Mike

<Stackpole> Randy: of my characters, Corran. Of the films and stuff, I'm leaning a lot toward Obi-wan.

<FireSky> woohoo! another Ob1 guy

<Randy-> Yeah! Obi-Wan rocks!

<oBwAn> sweet! :)

<chaos> i think mr stackpole shaves wookies in his free time

<Mik> OBW in E1 rocked

<LordDaveMaul> Ben was always my fav. Now he's my fav of all 6 movies, no matter who they throw at us.

<Randy-> Both young and old Obi-Wans

<Stackpole> chaos, what free time?

<Xandor> what is ya FAV book?

<FireSky> Ob1 ruled all throughout the movies so far, :-)

<jenn> Nawara & rhysati are starting a family: what do their kids look like, or do they have to adopt like Gavin & Asyr?

<Mik> and what wookies?

<Stackpole> Well, in that online survey thing, I came back as OB1,so that might influence me, too.

<FireSky> same here, mate

<Silverbolt> heh, i got Obi Wan too

<SD_SE_SKYKILLER> you think that darth maul wil be back in the new movie

* LordDaveMaul ended up being Leia for some strange reason

<chaos> all that free time you spend in between your 400 to 500 page novels of course!

<Stackpole> Jenn: I don't know, since I never had to answer that question. Don't know if Twi'leks and humans can interbreed.

<LordDaveMaul> He won't, Skykiller

<Randy-> He kicked butt with a lightsaber in E1; and, given his age, he kicked butt with a lightsaber in E4 :-D Of course there's more to Obi-Wan than his saber skills

<dreddnott> I hope Darth Maul doesn't come back

<jenn> but i want to know!

<Stackpole> unlikely for Maul to return, to my mind.

<SD_SE_SKYKILLER> he will

<LordDaveMaul> Lucas told Empire magazine that he's gone and NEVER coming back.

<TheRiddler> I'm an OB1 too!

<Silverbolt> Mike, what would have to be your favorite book you read?

<Mik> the kid would probably have lekku, just covered with hair

<Mik> eew

<Stackpole> jenn: i can't give you an answer because it would have to be approved by LFL...

<TheRiddler> Lucas said Maul won't be back. current issue of EMPIRE mag

<mrpoop> Speaking of Gavin and Asyr, any chance (that you are allowed to talk about) they will meet again?

<SD_SE_SKYKILLER> i heard that the maul that got killed was a clone

<Stackpole> Silver: that's an impossible question for me to answer.

<jenn> oh, that implant firing again...

<Terminato> Do you think Qui Gon will be back?

<SD_SE_SKYKILLER> and it started the clone wars

<Stackpole> mrpoop: Actually, Lucasfilm prohibits me from commenting about ongoing work in any specifics.

<Silverbolt> yeah, i guess it is

<Mik> lol

<TheRiddler> ROTFL

<maclaine> Mike, what's your favorite sci-fi (non-SW) book ?

<Silverbolt> lol

<Mik> I KNEW IT!

<FireSky> there's that macro

<Mik> LFL's got you all working as mind slaves!

<chaos> DARTH MAUL IS DEAD AND PALPATINE IS SIDIOUS isnt that obvious!

<Stackpole> maclaine: of mine? Once a Hero or Talion: Revenant.

<LordDaveMaul> No, Skykiller. Lucas JUST said that Maul is dead. Now Palpy/Sidious getting another apprentice is entirely different, but Darth Maul is dead.

<mrpoop> I thought Qui-Gon died...

<Mik> it's a conspiracy, I tell you!

<LordDaveMaul> chaos, relax

<chaos> sorry

<SD_SE_SKYKILLER> nope

<FireSky> Qui Gon could pull an Ob1 of course... come back as a spirit guiding Anakin after all...

<TheRiddler> don't think so

<Stackpole> chaos, can you shift your typing to something other than yellow?

<Terminato> chaos, do you really need color?

<chaos> yellow

<chaos> im red i thought

<Silverbolt> heh, his typing comes out as red here

<Stackpole> thanks, chaos

<TheRiddler> it's red on my screen. still nasty

<LordDaveMaul> Lucas also stated that he originally had Maul just fall into the pit, but then he thought that everyone would want him back and think that he made it out somehow, so he had Obi-Wan cut him in half to end speculation.

<chaos> no prob

<Randy-> He showed up red for me...but it looked bad still

<SD_SE_SKYKILLER> maul will be back

<TheRiddler> right, Dave is quoting the EMPIRE article now too. <G>

<LordDaveMaul> No, he won't. *waving hand*

<mrpoop> Maul died when he got cut in half

<FireSky> maul is gone, face it

<oBwAn> lol

<JeDiThRaWn> sure, why not just make 50 clones of darth maul?

<Randy-> Guys, the only reason everyone wants Maul back is because of his double-bladed lightsaber, okay?

<LordDaveMaul> Yup, Riddler. =-) hehe

<dreddnott> I shall call him MiniMaul!!!!

<chaos> this has become chaotic

<FireSky> haha

<Terminato> bwahahah.

<MiniMaul> ((>MP3 SOUND<)) [EPISODE_II_REVEALED.MP3] size 0.13mb length 0:33 bitrate 32kbps -mono- ::Running WinAMP Audio Player::

[MiniMaul:#moseisley MP3] EPISODE_II_REVEALED.MP3

<Mik> "This isn't the Darth Maul you're looking for."

<TheRiddler> hehehe

<chaos> hey mike-i gotta pee should i take the computer with me?

<Randy-> Mike, have you ever seen Weird Al's video "The Saga Begins"?

<LordDaveMaul> No, that wasn't the only reason. His look, his lightsaber, his skill, his ship........everything.

<TheRiddler> that vid and song rocked!

<Stackpole> Chaos: if it was an ibook, ou could.

<Stackpole> Randy: nope.

* MiniMaul is everything Darth Maul is...1/8th his size

<chaos> oh i see

<Terminato> Stackpole, you should, it's pretty good.

<mrpoop> Didn't Exar Kun have a double bladed lightsaber?

<Randy-> He looks freaky in that video

* MiniMaul ignites his mini-sabre staff and slices Urzas leg off at the knee

<Randy-> Yep mrpoop

* Xandor is [Away] - [Reason: Damn, I'm sooo idle! [10mins]] - [Pager: OFF] - [Gone: 0 hrs, 30 mins] MoonScript IRC Pro

<Stackpole> mrpoop: I don't know if he did or not.

<Randy-> There we go!

<Randy-> Mike: Exar Kun vs. Darth Maul, who would win?

<Mik> Mike, don't you get nervous being in an unmoderated chat with a bunch of wierdos like us?

<chaos> darth maul!

<dreddnott> Darth Maul!!!

<TheRiddler> Maul! :)

<FireSky> ok, I'm sick of this double-bladed lightsaber... the traditional saber is the weapon of a Jedi, not fancy "good for looks" saber staffs

<Mik> Maul

<Stackpole> Randy: I'd hope both would lose.

<Silverbolt> Vader vs. Maul, who would win? Vader

<dreddnott> lol

<chaos> vader

<Randy-> AHEM, anybody notice the MIKE: in front of the question?! :-P

<SD_SE_SKYKILLER> maul

<chaos> sienar would win!

<TheRiddler> hehe

<Nazke|du> double saber....seems to me that the double saber did pretty well against two Jeds

<mrpoop> Wedge vs. Ric Olie

<Stackpole> I just like the variationin the light sabers.

<dreddnott> right but you could poke yourself easily

<Mik> Wedge

<FireSky> and a regular saber could have done just as well

<Stackpole> Wedge kicks butt.

<Silverbolt> it would be like this- Vader: *force chokes Maul* "Listen you welp, you are the apprentie, I am the master, you will do as I say or you will die. Now go get me a donut."

<Mik> that ric olie guy can't act

<LordDaveMaul> Holy lag

<dreddnott> LOL

<Nazke|du> lmao

<jenn> yes he does, ssays the AFW rgular...

<chaos> i invented the double saber first the LFL stole it from me- i even have the art work!

<jenn> regular, even

<FireSky> Qui Gon was older and OB1 wasn't fully trained, Maul could have beat them with a regular one, piece of cake

<Randy-> Mik, Ric Olié was awesome! Did you see that dude's eyes when he said "Shield generator's been hit!"? ROFL that was funny!

<Nazke|du> if that was true why is he dead? =P

<LordDaveMaul> heh, but he had a double one and still got his tail kicked

<Mik> please be kidding

<FireSky> I said "could"

<Randy-> I am Mik :-P

<Mik> whew

<Xandor> what r we talking about?

<SD_SE_SKYKILLER> some one have like 5 sabers in one of the books

<Terminato> I would be frightened of injuring myself with a double-bladed saber.

<mrpoop> Ric Olie is the Phantom Menace. "There's the blockade."

<Randy-> Stuff Xandor

<Mik> that line ruined the scene for me, his acting was so bad

<LordDaveMaul> Ric had some sort of nervous twitch every time he had a line. <g>

<Nazke|du> well, regardless of could, he got his ass whooped

<Mik> lol

<Xandor> i should go

<Randy-> Mike: So how goes the weather down in your area?

<Xandor> bye

<SD_SE_SKYKILLER> some one have like 5 sabers in one of the books

<FireSky> and Maul did NOT lose the saber fight, he lost the war of overconfidence

<Mik> that area being?

<Stackpole> Randy: Hot, muggy, but no tstorm at the moment.

<FireSky> he wasted both of the Jedi

<TheRiddler> :)

<Stackpole> Arizona

<mrpoop> Light-axe

<chaos> does stackpole like windmills?

<chaos> ?

<Randy-> Mike: is it true you moved down there to get away from shoveling snow? <g>

<FireSky> he was just overconfident and got killed when he was off guard

<Silverbolt> heh

<Stackpole> windmills? Um...

<Stackpole> Randy: Yes, and for mexican food.

<Stackpole> victore: I ignore messages

<chaos> im sitting on the future site of the largest collection of windmills in the world!

<Randy-> Hehehe...I hate shoveling snow too, but I don't have a choice at the moment...

<Victore> ahh crap :)

<chaos> hehe

<chaos> hehe

<Silverbolt> I live in New Orleans, I just have to cut grass :)

<Stackpole> I grew up in Vermont, so I've shoveled my share.

<Nazke|du> lol

<Stackpole> Silver: and blanche mildew

<ravskel> Randy- YOU HAVE SNOW!!!!!!!1

<Silverbolt> umm, nope, aitn seen none of that :)

<dreddnott> what's 'snow'?

<Tony> ....

<Mik> Mike, don't you get nervous being in an unmoderated chat with a bunch of wierdos like us?

<ravskel> Im in pennsylvania: i want it just to be cooler like maybe 90 for a change

<jenn> btw, Mike, I'm the weirdo who accosted you at I-Con in NY in April. Hello again.

<Mik> i sure would

<Randy-> I used to live in Alaska, now I live in Virginia (no snow since I've been here, woohoo!), but I'm moving up to Maine in a couple days. Oh happy day...

<LordDaveMaul> Speak for yourself. =-P

<oBwAn> what's sun? all I get is rain

<ravskel> oh god

<Stackpole> mik: I have a cutoff switch on my phone cable in case it gets to be too much.

<Mik> =)

<Nazke|du> lol

<chaos> lol

<Silverbolt> lol

<Randy-> Mike: Have you ever been to Alaska?

<Stackpole> jenn: you werne't a weirdo. I do recall you, though. Hi.

<ravskel> heh

<Mik> in that case i'd like to tell you my life story...

<Terminato> heh

<Victore> heehee...corrupt him before he cuts off!

<chaos> whats your favorite state?

<Stackpole> Randy: NOpe, but I go fishing in Maine fromtime to time. This Sept, in fact.

<jenn> Hi. I've shown everyone I know the autographed book.

<Stackpole> chaos: sleep, generally

<Randy-> Maine's cool, ain't it? Great place...

<LordDaveMaul> I think Mike is the one corrupting us, making his Xwing and other books so damn good. We HAVE to read them. It's like a drug. <b>

<Mik> ?me plays a rim shot

<Stackpole> ctually, I love Vermont, and Arizona has grown on me.

* Mik plays a rim shot

<Nazke|du> like Arizona better

<Randy-> When was your first book published?

<King_Cheetah> Stackpole, that was one of the first BattleTech books, wasn't it?

<Stackpole> Fire: yep, but it's tough to do original stuff. I thought Aaron did a great job inhis boks of it.

<Stackpole> King: yeah, the 4th overall, I htink.

<FireSky> however... I always find it easier once I think of the whole picture of the battle...I can just see everything in its place... kinda fun

*** Defiant (defiant@cloaked.tampabay.rr.com) has joined #moseisley

<Defiant> YO!

<LordDaveMaul> I checked Walden's today, and they said that SoA doesn't come out until the 3rd! Nazis!!!!!!!

<Stackpole> fire: cool

<Eliminator> Hey Defiant

<Defiant> Hiya Elim.

<Randy-> What is SoA, anywho?

<LordDaveMaul> Starfighters of Amadur

<dreddnott> YO!

<Mik> nazis?

<Stackpole> Starfighters of Adumar: xwing 9

<King_Cheetah> I don't know, only recently started reading them (read the blood of kerensky trilogy) very nice work there :)

<FireSky> plus alot of my readers say that they never have been able to "see" an engagement like they can with me... they can only compare it with your own dogfights, lol

<LordDaveMaul> doh

<Stackpole> thanks, King.

<Jaster> ::Thwaps Randy::Dude you shoudl know that

<chaos> have fun with NJO mike!

<mrpoop> y

<Stackpole> fire: that's a compliment.

<Defiant> I finally read I, Jedi last month. Great book! =)

<King_Cheetah> nono, thank you.

<Nazke|du> Kerin......is that how you go thte name for Corran's alter ego Mike?

<Randy-> Tom don't start with me, I'm talking with THE Michael Stackpole here

<Stackpole> chaos, I will.

<chaos> bye

* LordDaveMaul just picked I,Jedi up in paperback

<Stackpole> Naz: funny you should notice that.

<Tom> Randy I know dude, I have them books to

<FireSky> however, I admit... I was inspired to even write fanfic by your books, so its an honor being compared to you, :-)

* Silverbolt is gonna by I, Jedi next time he's at the bookstore

<Nazke|du> heh, was it? =P

<Mik> mike, what was your opinion of Wedge & Qui's relationship? it's obvious Allston's not too fond of it...

<Stackpole> Mik: Pick up the Luke and Mara marriage comic.

<TheRiddler> MtFbwY on ONSLAUGHT and RUIN, Mike!

<Stackpole> Thanks, Riddler.

<Mik> gotcha

<Mik> nice to know i'm not the only one in here who self-plugs =)

<mrpoop> Qwi Gone

<ravskel> ok

<Randy-> Mike: That's one thing that stinks about someone writing a novel about a character's future before someone else's book about an earlier event in a character's past huh?

<Stackpole> lol

<Tom> Mike, I think Lando should fight it out with Luke for Mara that would be fun to watch

<Stackpole> Randy: then I write books AFTER that, and I get to win.

<Randy-> LOL!

<FireSky> hehe

<Randy-> Good strategy ;-)

<Mik> =)

<Stackpole> Tom: you want to see lando get his butt kicked?

<jenn> And boy, am I glad you won, Mike.

<Stackpole> and I mean Mara would do it before Luke got around ot it.

<King_Cheetah> Tom, hehe.. I for one hope Luke would win.. (member of KILLANDO Ssquadron here) ;)

<Randy-> Tom, Luke would whoop up on Lando

<Tom> Yea LOL

<FireSky> ha! Lando always needs to get his face rubbed in the mud

<JeDiThRaWn> Stackpole, can you write a book and have JarJar die?

<oBwAn> Mike: Do you think Qui Gon will be back?

<Nazke|du> lol

<Mik> i think lando's the one that's gonna die in Vector Prime

<Stackpole> Nope, I'm not doing anything in the prequel era.

<FireSky> check out Crispin's Pre-ANH books to see that one, hehe

<ravskel> plug then: :This is brought to you by those cool guys at irc.holonet.org for providing us witht he java chat and the server to have this on. AND moseisley.com who set this up special thanks goes out to Urza for being just cool and hooking us up with all these sweet authors continue chatting... oh yea if you want to learn more about eveyrbodies favorite operating system go to www.linux.com

<Silverbolt> no, they can't kill Lando

<Silverbolt> he's to important

<FireSky> sure they can

<JeDiThRaWn> grrrr, can you talk to Terry Brooks and recomend it? :)

<Stackpole> Actually, Lucasfilm prohibits me from commenting about ongoing work in any specifics.

<Terminato> ravskel, :)

<FireSky> everyone is expendable, :-)

<Randy-> Mike: So do you have any other books planned after you write your NJO books?

<FireSky> AHH!! there's that macro

<Silverbolt> Fire, Luke is expendable?

<FireSky> yeah

<Stackpole> randy: Sw books, no. Other novels, yes, bunches of them.

<FireSky> once his usefulness is run out

<Silverbolt> nah, the series wouldn't survive after him...

<Nazke|du> Mike: types of books?

* Mik pushes a button and disables the macro

<FireSky> if he's just taking up space... kill him off

<Victore> i wonder if luke will ever die...eventually he'll be like 100 and then lucasarts will be stuck...

<Randy-> Cool.

<Stackpole> Fantasy novels, btech.

<King_Cheetah> Sb, they were supposed to at first... to give Han's comment about "I 'ave a funny feeling that I'm not going to see her again".. he wasn't supposed to get out alive from the DS2... but *shrug sob*

<Stackpole> vic: Yoda was 800

<mrpoop> Mike, was Sate Pestage in ROTJ?

<JeDiThRaWn> 900 I thought

<Stackpole> Mrpoop: I didn't see himtehre.

<Silverbolt> Yoda was 900

<Mik> why would he be?

<Victore> yoda wasnt human :) or at least i dont think so...waaaait....interesting thought

<LordDaveMaul> Ok, gotta split. Nice talking to you again, Mike. See you at the next chat. =-) MTFBWY

<JeDiThRaWn> "When 900 years old you reach look as good, you will not"

<FireSky> lol Victore

<Stackpole> Right, 900.

<mrpoop> As one of Palpatine's buddies in the throne room?

<Randy-> Mike: I'm really looking forward to your NJO books, I, Jedi was one of the best Jedi books I've read. Better than KJA(no offense to the dude, he's a great author too)'s Jedi Academy trilogy.

<Defiant> What expect you from a man who is years old 900? Basic perfect?!

<Terminato> A 900 year old human might look like Yoda.

<Mik> does anyone know if the outrider is really in one of the special editions? i heard so, but i can't find it

<Stackpole> mrpoop:I wasn't aware those charcters were identified by name in rotj

<Stackpole> Randy: thanks.

<Tom> For cases like Yoda's you need Extra Strength Wrinkle Remover

<Stephan> Stackpole is here?????????

<Victore> hey..no plugs, tom :)

<King_Cheetah> Mik, ... wasn't that ship really new?

<mrpoop> I'm not sure if they are, but I read somewhere that one of them is Pestage

<FireSky> hey... I know alot of people think that Yoda was just an instructor... any of you think that in here?

<Stackpole> mrp: that could be, but it's not in the sourcebooks that I recal.

<dreddnott> no

<Mik> what do you mean new?

<Nazke|du> Mike: you get to make any imput with anything prequil based yet?

<dreddnott> Yoda was the greatest jedi ever for some 700-800 years :-)

<Nazke|du> input even

<TheRiddler> Mike, will you be at the San Diego Comic Con?

<FireSky> finally

<Stackpole> Naz: nope. Not like theyneed myhelp on prequel stuff.

<FireSky> I've been fighting an ongoing war on a couple mboards to that effect

<Stackpole> Riddler: Im not sure. Maybe. If so, on Friday.

<Tony> what the heck race IS yoda? Lucas better tell sometim esoon

<Stackpole> there's a female Yoda in the council scene, as I recall.

<TheRiddler> Yaddle

<Plo_Koon> Yaddle

<dreddnott> yaddle

<Tony> woa

<Victore> hehe...his birth certificate... species: "Muppet"

<Nazke|du> Mike: you think it'll open up doors for you having more info on past events in the SW universe? (writing wise)

<mrpoop> Yoda is a Kowakian Monkey-Lizard *g*

<King_Cheetah> yeah... lighter colored though (younger?)

<FireSky> a lizard?

<Stephan> (Stackpole) Where does "I Jedi" come in the chronology of the the X-Wing series?

<Stackpole> Naz: already has. got mte the comics. As far as films, though, probably not.

* Nazke|du nods cool

<Stackpole> Stephan: IJ comes after IR, before Starfighters, running concurrent with the JAtrilogy for the first half.

<FireSky> he isn't a lizard, he doesn't have the teeth of the tongue to be even CLOSELY related to a lizard

<Randy-> Mike: Where does SoA take place in the SW chronology?

<TheRiddler> Planet of Twilight

<Mik> 9 years post endor i think

<TheRiddler> during the same time

<Stackpole> Randy: I think it's after Darksaber, but how much after, I'm not sure...

<Randy-> ah

<Randy-> thanks

<TheRiddler> ya

<mrpoop> Darksaber, wasn't that the one where Crix Madine died?

<King_Cheetah> well.. it's 3am here, I should be off.. and there for I am. (I sleep therefore I am)

<Stephan> (Stackpole)I'm confused :o

<Stackpole> Well, folks, it's the witching hour. I've work to do and dogs to fee.

<Stackpole> Thanks for coming. I had fun.

<dreddnott> bye Mike

* Victore slaps Stackpole around a bit with a large trout

<Tom> Welcome Mike

<Nazke|du> Mike: Good luck man, later
