For your convenience the Holonet offers standard IRC services. These allow you some functionality without the need for bots.
NickServ
Your first stop on the services tour, NickServ, allows you to register your nickname. It takes no longer
than the time to type one command and you're set. Why register, you ask? Because if you don't,
anyone else can come on to use your nick. Worse than that, they may try to impersonate you and make
everyone hate you! Once you're registered, you can also use Memoserv to send and receive memos.
ChanServ
The same concept goes for ChanServ, except this time for channels. Registering your channel makes sure
no one takes it over. (provided you don't give power to the wrong people) It also gets a little more
complex, allowing you to maintain access lists so your friends can run the channel too. Our ChanServ
does not need to sit in the channel to effect control, so you don't have to look at his ugly face all
the time.
MemoServ
MemoServ allows you to send short memos to other users, provided you are both registered with NickServ.
It carried special convenience if you just want to send a short note to someone who's offline and you
do not know their email address. Sending a memo to a channel will allow you to memo all the ops of that
channel.
IrcIIHelp
IrcIIHelp provides standard help for ircII clients, which is the most popular client on Unix variant
systems. However, most of the commands it has help for are the base of IRC, so it may provide
help to just about any user.
